Pisces

Astronomy

Situated between Aries and Aquarius, at about 1 hour right ascension and 15° north declination. The vernal equinox, the point where the Sun's annual apparent path takes it north of the celestial equator and from which celestial longitude and right ascension are measured, lies now in Pisces. The constellation contains only faint stars without any striking grouping.

The origin of this constellation was broght about when Venus and Cupid were on the banks of the Euphrates. They both became alarmed at the appearance of Typhon. Subsequently they throw themselves into the river and changed into two fishes to escape. To comemorate the event Menerva placed two fishes among the stars.
