Grid Reference SH 579613 On a map of northwest Wales (Gwynedd) find Llanberis (the village at the foot of Snowdon).

follow the A55 expressway past Chester and Conwy towards Bangor. Turn off at Bangor/Bethesda exit, taking first left and then first right towards Llanberis. After 3 miles come to a roundabout and turn left. After another 3 miles (about i mile after an Esso petrol station on the left) notice sign to left for Brynrefail. Keep going. A few hundred yards later look out for another sign to left marked Brynrefail and Fachwen. Turn left. Within 50 yards come to T-junction and turn right. Another 100 yards there is a turning to the left to Fachwen. This is near an old bridge at the foot of LIyn Padarn.

Head for the M54 towards Telford and Shrewsbury. This turns into the A5 which you follow through Llangollen, Corwen, Betws y Coed to Capel Curig. Turn left there towards Llanberis, through the mountains (very beautiful) and after five miles go right, up over the Llanberis Pass and down the valley. Bypass Llanberis driving along the edge of the lake. 2 miles later the road straightens out. You come to a main junction.Turn right (towards Bangor) then within 100 yards turn right igain. The road goes left over the old bridge, then turn right onto the Fachwen lane.

Both directions come together here.

The road leads up the hill beneath grainite boulders and tall larch and pine trees overlooking the lake. After passing a few houses about a mile up you'll come to a telephone box on your left. 100 yards later on the right under a lamp post is a small gold and green sign saying 'Cae Mabon' with an arrow pointing down hill. Follow the road downhiil 'till you reach the car park and sign for Cae Mabon!
