Chaired Bard of Ynys Witrin

Bards are accordingly invited to a Bardic competition to compose a performance on the "Spirit of Trees" to hold the position of the 'Chaired Bard Of Ynys Witrin'.

At high noon on the Vernal Equinox, 20th March, at the Market Cross in Glastonbury, the Chaired Bard of Ynys Witrin, Dearbhaile Bradley, announced the theme of the 2008 Open Gorseth, at which her successor in the Chair will be chosen.

The theme for this year's Gorseth is "Spirit of Trees" and the trials will be held on Tuesday 13th May. The Gorseth itself is, as always, on St. Dustan's Day 19th May. Competitors for the Bardic Chair have until the 13th May to compose a performance (poetry, song, recitation or other forms) on this theme.

On the 13th May the Bardic Trials will take place at the Glastonbury Assembly Rooms, starting at 7pm (doors open 6pm).

The Bardic Order, of which the Chaired Bard is the head, will meet ceremonially in the Fairfield, beneath Glastonbury Tor, at 2.30PM on the 18th May. Those who have entered the Trials will be eligible to join the Order. We gather beforehand at the White Spring around 2PM.

The Finals and the Chairing of the Bard will take place at the Assembly Rooms on St. Dunstan's Day, the 19th May.
